About Francis Fennell *
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Francis Fennell is a recovered alcoholic with over forty-five years of uninterrupted sobriety and active participation in Alcoholics Anonymous. He has attended over six thousand AA meetings in this time and had the opportunity to listen to many thousands of other AA members recount their stories.

Mr. Fennell has had thirty-five years of experience in the alcohol and other drug treatment field. He founded and operated his own hospital for inpatient alcoholism and other drug addiction treatment in Janesville, Wisconsin in 1972. as well as a half dozen out patient treatment clinics in several other states. He also started programs for several other hospitals, and has consulted with many major corporations. Many of the ideas in his book were developed by learning from thousands of patients who went through treatment at his clinics.

Working with the University of Wisconsin Medical School, he trained a team of psychiatrists from the Soviet Union, including the Chief of Psychiatry for the entire Soviet Union for six months. After that he was asked by the University of Moscow Medical School to come to Moscow to train 140 Soviet doctors from fifty cities from all over the U.S.S.R. for a month. He then developed a number of inpatient and outpatient programs in some of those cities.

Mr. Fennell has spoken extensively on the subject and two of his speeches were nominated for publication and were published in the prestigious journal, Vital Speeches Of The Day. He is now actively involved in establishing an original and unique program for community wide education that addresses the growing breakdown in our nation’s value systems and the unhappiness that is seen to be growing in our general population. He also is promoting the use of the paradigm he describes in his book as a definitive answer to mental health treatment.
